According to a US report recently claimed that hackers had managed to interfere with two military satellites, but one expert argues the amount of energy required would be too great for ordinary hackers.

The hackers took control of the Landsat-7 and Terra AM-1 satellites for a grand total of 12 minutes and two minutes respectively.

One might hope that the communications satellites suspended in orbit above the earth might be one component of the planet’s technology infrastructure that is safely out of harm’s way.

But as satellite communications enthusiast Paul Marsh explained at the London Security B-Sides event in April, there are reasons to doubt the reports. He spoke about a similar story, reported in the late 1990s, about hackers supposedly accessing UK military satellite communications network SkyNet and ‘nudging’ one satellite out of synch.

Whether Chinese hackers have that capability now is just one more matter of speculation to add to the opaque field of cyber warfare.

Alan Wake's American Nightmare is a story-driven action-horror video game, developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Microsoft Studios. The game is a downloadable follow up to its predecessor, Alan Wake, but is not a sequel. The game is an Xbox Live Arcade title and was released February 22, 2012. A Microsoft Windows version will be released May 22, 2012.
American Nightmare is set as an independent game and does not reflect on the major storyline of the franchise. It only exists to broaden and expand the universe.

Story

The plot of American Nightmare is framed by the narration of an episode of "Night Springs" (in the style of The Twilight Zone), running while Alan Wake's friend and manager, Barry, is asleep in a motel room. The narration explains that Alan is attempting to chase down "the herald of darkness", Mr. Scratch and Alan's evil doppleganger created by a dark force, who is attempting to take away everything Alan loves, including his wife Alice. Alan, who as the champion of light has the ability to write a new reality, has been able to write his escape from Cauldron Lake in Washington, ending up near the small town of Night Springs, Arizona. He learns that he has been missing from the real world for nearly two years.
A nearby oil derrick erupts with several foes controlled by Mr. Scratch to kill Alan. Alan encounters Emma Sloan at a nearby hotel, who believes he is the same as Mr. Scratch that was at the motel the night before. She provides Alan with a typewritten page, a way to alter reality to destroy the derrick and stop the foes. Alan accomplishes the required change, sending a satellite out of orbit and crashing through the derrick, but in the confusion, the dark forces consume Emma. Alan looks to answers at a nearby observatory. There, Dr. Rachel Meadows, who also met Mr. Scratch previously, is tracking a mysterious signal sent just before the satellite was knocked out of orbit. Alan helps to repair the telescope, obtaining a portion of the signal that translates into part of a story, a new reality that Alan can change. The incomplete message points him to the nearby drive-in theater, where Serena Valdivia, under the influence of Mr. Scratch, attempts to prevent Alan from getting to the projection room where Alan can change reality; Serena mentions that Mr. Scratch is trying to prevent the sun from ever rising again. Alan eventually evades her, gaining the access code to the room, and uses the incomplete message to try to set the new reality. However, as the message is only partial, the new reality does not take effect; Mr. Scratch appears, and gloats to Alan, sending him back in a time loop to a few hours before.
Waking back up near the motel, Alan repeats many of the same motions, though both Emma and Rachel have some deja vu of the previous loop's events, and have helped Alan with some of his tasks. However, Emma is still consumed by the darkness, and Rachel is only able to capture a longer, but still incomplete, portion of the message. When Alan returns to the drive-in theater, he again is unable to complete the new reality and set back in time again by Mr. Scratch. He repeats his actions for a third time, but is able to save Emma and gain the complete message from Rachel. Alan sets the correct series of events in the projection room, ending by projecting a film made by Alice onto the screen. Mr. Scratch appears again but discovers that Alan has successfully written the new reality, and he is burned out of existence by the film. On the screen, Alan appears to reunite with Alice along a sun-lit shoreline; however, the narrator notes that this could quite possibly be just a figment of Alan's imagination since he is still trapped in the dark place.
After completion of the game's credits, Barry wakes up suddenly believing to have heard Alan's voice.

Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legends (or Ferrari Legends) is a racing video game in development by Slightly Mad Studios and to be published by Atari. It is the eleventh game in the series. It will be released on July 3rd, 2012 in North America, and April 20, 2012 in Europe.
The game is a departure from the Unlimited open world sandbox-gaming style and returns to the arcade racing, just as left in Test Drive 6 and also resembling Le Mans 24 Hours, a Test Drive spin-off.
Ferrari Legends will focus on Ferrari's history across almost all of the racing disciplines, including Formula One, rally racing, and GT. There will be over 50 different Ferrari vehicles to drive, and each will show off full realistic interior and exterior models, as well as damage effects.
The game is set to be released in celebration of the 65th anniversary of the first Ferrari ever built, the Ferrari 125 S of 1947.

Gameplay

The gameplay in Ferrari Legends is planned to be alike past Test Drive games like Test Drive 2 through Test Drive 6, but with racing taking place in closed circuits and inspired by others Slightly Mad Studios' developed games like the Need for Speed: Shift series, from which the game will base its dynamic models and damage effects.
Also, the single-player mode, also known as the campaign mode, will guide the player through the history of Ferrari cars, just as Electronic Arts did with the Porsche brand in the fifth installment in the Need for Speed racing games, Porsche Unleashed.
Rather than concentrate solely on Ferrari’s road cars, the game will cover several race series too, including Formula One, rally and GT racing. There will be 36 circuits in total including Spa and Monza along with other Grand Prix tracks and test circuits.
On the multi-player side, the game will feature up to 8-player online interactions, as well as the mentioned single-player mode. Although, it is not mentioned if the single-player challenges will also be played in co-op mode or completely online.

Hitman: Absolution is an upcoming third person shooter being developed by IO Interactive and published by Square Enix. It is the upcoming fifth entry in the Hitman game series, and will run on IO Interactive's proprietary Glacier 2 game engine. The developers have confrimed that Absolution will feature different gameplay than previous installments, with a greater focus on action and gunplay.

Hitman: Blood Money ended with Diana helping Agent 47 fake his death, in order for him to escape The Franchise. 47 killed their leader, former FBI director Alexander Leland Cayne, though he was part of a larger secret society called Alpha Zerox. Diana and the rest of ICA do not know 47's whereabouts, nor does the player for certain - though the last scene shows 47 entering an Asian establishment, asking suspiciously what they have to offer, "preferably in the back". The first in-depth trailer for the game shows Agent 47 storming a safehouse, and confronting Diana while she is showering. 47 is "betrayed by those he once trusted and now hunted by the police, he suddenly finds himself at the center of a dark conspiracy and must embark on a personal journey through a corrupt and twisted world, in his search for the truth". At least one portion of the game will be set in Chicago, but it has been confirmed that the rest of the game will take place within the US. Hitman: Absolution is not set in a specific Hitman timeline. Confirmed plot details include series protagonist Agent 47 assassinating his former International Contract Agency handler Diana Burnwood early in the game and the antagonist identified as Blake Dexter, a new character to the series. The character will be voiced by Keith Carradine. There will be a significant amount of blood and gore in Hitman: Absolution.
Release date: November 20, 2012.

Here are some new features of Diablo III enjoy!
Release Date: May 15, 2012

SKILL RUNES
In Diablo III, runes give you unprecedented control over your skills and powers, changing elemental damage types, accuracy, and area of effect; adding new debilitating effects like slows and stuns; and even altering the nature and appearance of your abilities.

FOLLOWERS
Sometimes a hero needs a helping hand. Followers, champions brave enough to join you in battle against the Burning Hells, are similar to Henchmen from Diablo II in that they can be outfitted with relevant arms and armor, but they're upgradable with their own skills, allowing you to customize how they fight and what passive benefits they convey. They're also fleshed-out personalities in their own right.

CRAFTING & ARTISANS
As you meet and assist people during your journey through Sanctuary, some of the world's most talented craftsmen will sign on to travel with you. These artisans are capable of putting the materials you'll find in the wilderness or salvage from unneeded items to good use, hammering out customized suits of armor or combining gems to unlock their powers.
Invest time and money into an artisan's training, fill their shop with worthy materials, and they'll keep improving the quality of items they can produce, augment or combine for you.

SEAMLESS INTERACTION
To push Diablo's blistering fast pace even harder, we've made some changes to Diablo III's character and inventory 'management' systems, so you'll spend more time using new powers to slay your enemies and get loot. Rather than hoarding skill points and holding off on improving your abilities while you wait levels for an ideal build, Diablo III lets you "respec" your skills readily to experiment with interesting choices. You can also share items between all of your characters just by placing them in your stash, and you can identify unknown items and teleport back to town without needing to collect scrolls and tomes to do so.

COMBAT: FASTER, SMARTER, DEEPER
Combat in Diablo III follows the established model of clicking on your squealing, snarling enemies and watching the carnage – but it's deeper and richer. Scads of defensive abilities for each class mean more tactical possibilities; cooldowns on potions guarantee that choosing your targets carefully and controlling the battlefield is as important as what you bring with you to a fight, and the presence of health globes ensures that mobility can mean the difference between life and death.

IMPROVED CONTROLS
Diablo III adds new control options to the classic Diablo II hotbar, including full customization of all shortcut and mouse buttons, to make using your skills during combat quicker than it's ever been.

When Microsoft revealed the “consumer preview” of Windows 8 on Wednesday, it didn’t just give the world a glimpse at a new OS — it also showed us that it can be a leader in touch-based user interface design. Yes, Microsoft’s new tablet UI isn’t merely utilitarian. It’s actually innovative, and even cool.
And in some ways it trumps the best that Apple and Google currently have to offer in iOS and Android, respectively.
Here are five new Windows 8 features.

Picture password
You can choose both the photo and its related gestures for your picture password. The more that's going on in a photo, the harder your password will be to crack.

Easy Gesture-Based App Switching
Flick from the left side of the Windows 8 screen, and you can either rotate through apps lightning-fast, or pull up thumbnail previews of the apps you have open.

Choose your key size
For the split-screen keyboard, you can choose one of three key sizes.

Full screen application screen
Windows 8 also innovates with a unique, tablet-optimized approach that eliminates distracting “chrome” — in other words, all those busy interface elements that can junk up a desktop or app interface. In fact, it’s an OS-wide theme of Windows 8′s Metro UI. There are no menu bars, task bars, or navigational buttons permanently pinned to the display.

Home screen
On the Start Screen, you can get a glimpse of recent e-mails, what's next on the agenda, the weather, and more.

Kennedy, who, as a rookie police officer in Raccoon City, is on your hit list to eliminate.

Three Corner Conflict: Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W) and zombies create an unpredictable third force and additional challenge on the battlefield, adding chaos to the shooter game play.

GeForce GTX 690 is the fastest graphics card ever built! It is powered by two Kepler GPUs and uses hardware based frame metering!

Features of GTX 690:

Kepler GPU Architecture
NVIDIA's Kepler GPU architecture has been designed from the ground up not just for maximum performance in the latest DirectX 11 games, but optimal performance per watt. The new SMX streaming multiprocessor is twice as efficient as the prior generation and the new geometry engine draws triangles twice as fast. The result is world class performance and the highest image quality in an elegant and power efficient graphics card.

NVIDIA GPU Boost
Up until now, GPUs have operated at a fixed clock speed when playing 3D games, even if they have the potential to run faster. GPU Boost intelligently monitors graphics work load and increases the clock speed whenever possible. The result is that the GPU always performs at its peak and you get the highest framerate possible.

NVIDIA Adaptive Vertical Sync
Nothing is more distracting than framerate stuttering and screen tearing. The first tends to occur when framerates are low, the second when framerates are high. Adaptive V-Sync is a smarter way to render frames. At high framerates, V-sync is enabled to eliminate tearing, at low frame rates, it's disabled to minimize stuttering. It gets rid of distractions so you can get on with gaming.

NVIDIA Surround with Up To Four Monitors1
Nothing is as breathtaking as playing your favorite games across three monitors. At 5760 x 1080, the expanded field of view fully engages human peripheral vision and provides for the most immersive experience in racing and flight simulators. Add in a fourth display to keep tabs on chat, email or web while you are gaming.

Two New Anti-aliasing Modes: FXAA and TXAA
Anti-aliasing smoothes out jagged edges but can be demanding on framerates. FXAA is a new antialiasing technology that produces beautiful smooth lines with minimal performance impact. And with Kepler based GPUs, you'll be able to enable FXAA in hundreds of game titles through the NVIDIA Control Panel.

The second mode, TXAA, is an in-game option that combines MSAA, temporal filtering, and post processing for even higher visual fidelity.

NVIDIA 3D Vision® Ready2
NVIDIA 3D Vision brings a fully immersive, stereoscopic 3D experience to the PC. A combination of high-tech wireless glasses and advanced software, 3D Vision transforms hundreds of PC games into full stereoscopic 3D. Get up to 2x monitor and keyboard brightness with NVIDIA 3D LightBoost technology4. In addition, you can enjoy 3D movies and 3D digital photographs from 3DVisionLive.com in eye popping, crystal-clear quality.

NVIDIA SLI® Technology3
Used by the most demanding gamers worldwide, SLI lets you link up to three GeForce GTX 690s together for astounding performance. And with NVIDIA’s track record for fast and frequent software updates, you’ll not only get the best performance in existing games, but future games too.

NVIDIA PhysX® Technology
Full support for NVIDIA PhysX technology, enabling a totally new class of physical gaming interaction for a more dynamic and realistic experience with GeForce.

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition is the upcoming edition of Minecraft for the Xbox 360, announced at the 2011 E3 conference by Notch and Microsoft. MineCon attendees had a chance to play the Xbox Edition before its release. Notch has stated that the Xbox 360 will be the sole console provider of Minecraft.

Differences from PC version

For the most part the Xbox 360 edition of the game will be identical to the PC edition, but will have several notable differences and features:
The player will optionally be able to make use of Xbox Kinect functionality to assist in their gameplay, although Kinect functionality will not be available at launch.
The Xbox 360 edition won't make use of the standard crafting interface as in the original version, but will still have similarities to the PC's 2x2 and 3x3 crafting grids. The interface won't require you to place items in the correct place in a crafting menu, but will simply ask what it is that you want to craft, tell you the blocks required to craft it, and, if you have those blocks will craft one for you.
The game will feature split-screen functionality. 4 players in split screen, as well as the possibility to play 8-person online multiplayer game modes in split-screen. Split screen functionality is shown working in this video.
Mods, Texture Packs and extra player skins will be available much later.
The Xbox 360 edition will include tutorial mode not included in the PC version of the game. This tutorial leads the player through the basics of mining and placing blocks, crafting as well as building their first house to survive the night.

Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible
Peripherals: Keyboard & mouse or Windows compatible gamepad
OS: Windows XP SP2 / Vista / 7
This means that virtually any gaming PC can play Mafia 2. However the game has an added PC-exclusive feature in the form of NVIDIA PhysX enhancements. To utilize these enhanced features at playable framerates the following is recommended as a minimum:

Processor: 2.4 GHz Quad Core
Memory: 2 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260
GPU driver: 197.13 or newer
NVIDIA PhysX driver: 9.10.0513 or newer
We'll take a more detailed look at the PhysX/APEX enhancements later in this guide.

What follows are full descriptions for all of Mafia 2's in-game settings, including screenshot comparisons to highlight the impact on image quality of changing the various settings. Performance information is also provided for every setting, although bear in mind that the precise impact on your particular system depends on your specific hardware combination and your other game and system-wide settings. The aim here is to give you enough information so that you can make an informed choice as to the settings you enable or disable to obtain the precise balance of visual quality and performance which is acceptable to you.

General System Optimization

Almost as important as any in-game setting is the way your Windows installation is configured. A great many problems and performance issues can be traced directly to sub-optimal settings in Windows and out-of-date or badly configured drivers. For this reason it is recommended that you download the relevant version of the TweakGuides Tweaking Companion (TGTC) and take the time to optimize your Windows installation correctly. At the very least make sure to update your graphics drivers to the latest available version.

Performance Measurement

To successfully conduct any tweaking in Mafia 2, you will need some way of objectively measuring your performance in Frames Per Second (FPS). Fortunately, Mafia 2 comes with a built-in benchmark which provides a consistent measure of performance across all systems. To access the benchmark, launch Mafia 2, click Extras on the main menu, then select the Benchmark option. The benchmark will run through a set sequence of events using your current game settings, arriving at an average FPS figure for your system. While the Mafia 2 benchmark is very useful for objective performance measurement, in practice it provides a worst-case scenario, in that during actual gameplay, even at the highest settings, your FPS will rarely be as low as those shown in the benchmark sequence. Importantly, you should also run the benchmark at least twice, because during the first run frequent loading pauses may reduce your FPS, whereas the second run should be relatively free of these pauses and will give you a more accurate result.

To observe your FPS at any point in the game, use the free FRAPS utility. Download, install and launch FRAPS before starting up Mafia 2 You will now see a yellow FPS counter displayed in the corner of your screen. Pay attention to the FPS figure, particularly during graphically intense scenes, such as during explosions and in crowded areas - if it dips into the low double or single digits for example, this is a good indication that you need to adjust various settings until your minimum FPS is consistently above 20-25.

TERA takes the fight beyond whack-a-mole monotony with enhanced aiming, dodging, and tactical timing to create intense and rewarding combat. Unlike other MMOs, you can use your controller or keyboard and mouse to control the action like never before. With all the depth you expect from a traditional MMO, plus the intense gratification of action combat, TERA changes all the rules.

Experience an Action MMO beyond "point and click" where skill, position, timing, and aim determine success in combat.
Play seven character races and eight classes. Battle hundreds of monsters throughout 80+ zones and embark on thousands of quests in a game world rich in history and lore.
Advanced enemy AI and enormous bosses deliver a more intense and engaging combat experience.

Gameplay
While playing, you'll want as little clutter on the screen as possible. TERA's action combat focuses your attention on the middle of the screen, right where your attacks land. While you can certainly play without any textual assistance (Ctrl + Z will hide everything), TERA's UI is completely customizable to fit your play style.
To better diversify character names, you can use a period ( . ) during character creation. Or you can type your name normally — when you use a space in your name it will auto-populate with a period. You will see names such as Chelsea.The.Great or Kagonga.Longaxe in the world of TERA.

Sniper Elite V2 is a 2012 tactical shooter video game by Rebellion Developments for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It is a remake of Rebellion's 2005 game Sniper Elite. The game takes place in the same timeframe and location - the Battle of Berlin in April 1945 - but now the main character, an American Office of Strategic Services officer, must either kill or capture scientists involved in the German V-2 rocket programme.

Gameplay

Sniper Elite V2 is a third-person shooter that stresses employing stealth, rather than using brute force. Fairburne uses several WWII-era weapons, including sniper rifles, a silenced Welrod pistol, machine guns and German and Soviet hand grenades (which can be also used to make tripwire booby traps). One of the main features of the title is the realistic ballistics, involving factors such as bullet drop, wind strength, and the effect of holding one's breath when attempting a shot. Sniping gameplay is from a first person scope view, whereas movement and use of all other weapons is in third person view.
A major difference from the first game is the introduction of a controversial ‘X-Ray Kill Cam’, which activates when the player makes a particularly extreme shot. The view then follows the path of the bullet in slow motion before slowing further as it reaches its target, whereupon the target’s body is rendered as an anatomical cutaway to show the bullet’s passage through the body and the damage it causes to organs and bones. Other new elements include being able to mark enemy fighters to highlight their position along with target information, and a white-outlined figure which marks the point where enemy soldiers last spotted the player so that players can make their escape.

It is no secret that homes are ever-increasing hotbeds of new technology such as set-top boxes, game consoles, wireless routers, home automation devices, tablets, smart phones, and security cameras. This innovation is breeding heterogeneity and complexity that frustrates even technically-savvy users’ attempts to improve day-to-day life by implementing functionality that uses these devices in combination. For instance, it is impossible for most users to view video captured by their security camera on their smartphone when they are not at home. Heterogeneity across devices and across homes also makes it difficult to develop applications that solve these problems in a way that work across a range of homes.

To simplify the management of technology and to simplify the development of applications in the home, we are developing an "operating system" for the home. HomeOS provides a centralized, holistic control of devices in the home. It provides to users intuitive controls to manage their devices. It provided to developers high-level abstractions to orchestrate the devices in the home. HomeOS is coupled with a HomeStore through which users can easily add obtain applications that are compatible with devices in their homes and obtain any additional devices that are needed to enable desired applications.

A recently reported flaw that allowed an attacker to drastically reduce the number of attempts needed to guess the WPS PIN of a wireless router isn't necessary for some Arcadyan based routers anymore.

Last year it was exposed that the WiFi Protected Setup (WPS) PIN is susceptible to a brute force attack. A design flaw that exists in the WPS specification for the PIN authentication significantly reduces the time required to brute force the entire PIN because it allows an attacker to know when the first half of the 8 digit PIN is correct.

The lack of a proper lock out policy after a certain number of failed attempts to guess the PIN on many wireless routers makes this brute force attack that much more feasible.

Some 100,000 routers of type Speedport W921V, W504V and W723V are affected in Germany alone. What makes things worse is the fact that in order to exploit the backdoor, no button has to be pushed on the device itself and on some of the affected routers, the backdoor PIN ("12345670") is still working even after WPS has been disabled by the user. The only currently known remedy for those models is to disable Wi-Fi altogether. Since all Arcadyan routers share the same software platform, more models might be affected.

Last year, Tactical Network Solutions develop and released Reaver , which is a WPA attack tool  that exploits a protocol design flaw in WiFi Protected Setup (WPS). Reaver has been designed to be a robust and practical attack against WPS, and has been tested against a wide variety of access points and WPS implementations. On average Reaver will recover the target AP's plain text WPA/WPA2 passphrase in 4-10 hours, depending on the AP.
